Do you know why Jesus came to Earth?

The Mystery of Godliness

The Gospel is a mystery, a secret in the mind of God. It was originally hidden from our knowledge. By our own reason and abilities we would never be able to find the way nor could we have discovered it for ourselves.

The mystery, once hidden is now made known to all. Paul wrote to the Romans “...according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began” Romans 16:25
Romans 16:25

Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began

Without controversy great is the mystery of godliness, the great mystery of our faith

God was manifested in the flesh
Justified in the Spirit
Seen by angels
Preached among the Gentiles
Believed on in the world
Received up in glory
1 Timothy 3:16
1 Timothy 3:16

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:
God was manifested in the flesh,
 Justified in the Spirit,
 Seen by angels,
 Preached among the Gentiles,
 Believed on in the world,
 Received up in glory.

In the bible, the number 3 is equal to God
the number 4 is equal to the earth
Added together, the number 3 plus 4 is equal to 7 which is perfection

Jesus is perfection

Jesus is the Word and was with God in the beginning
    John 1:1
John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
He is eternal, just as God is eternal, and all created things were created by Him,
and through Him, and for Him.
    Colossians 1:15-23
Colossians 1:15-23

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell,
20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.
21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled
22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—
23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

The reason for Jesus' birth

God provided a way for us to be saved and it was spoken to us by His son
    Hebrews 1:2-3
Hebrews 1:2-3

2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;
3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

God sent the Word to the earth to become flesh and live among us
    John 1:14
John 1:14

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Being in the form of God, Jesus was humbled and was exalted
    Philipians 2:6-10
Philipians 2:6-10

6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,
7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,

    John 3:16-17
John 3:16-17

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”

God sent Jesus to earth to provide a way for our Salvation. The first 4 books of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, describe the birth, life, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.

The first chapter of the book of Acts describes the ascension of Jesus and His instruction for them to wait until they receive power from on high.

The Second chapter of the book of Acts describes the coming of the power from on high, the first gospel sermon preached by Peter and the establishment of the church and kingdom.

At this point the reason Jesus came to earth was complete. From here on it is our responsibility to follow the way of salvation provided by God.

This is from a sermon by Javier Villa which he titled
REDEEMING THE TIME BECAUSE THE DAYS ARE EVIL

It was preached on December 18, 2022 the Sunday morning prior to Christmas day 2022. At this time of year many people are thinking about Jesus and his birth yet they know very little about who Jesus is and why he was born. Many would be open for a conversation about Jesus just because of the time of year. Therefore, it would be an opportunity for us to redeem the time and tell people about Jesus; who he is and why he came to earth, as Paul writes in Ephesians 5:16
Ephesians 5:16

redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
