Who We Are
We strive to be the church described in the New Testament
|
A church of Christ at Lassen Street is a group of Christians attempting to follow God's word,
the Bible, as closely as we can.
We are not a part of any human denomination or creed.
We are not governed by any one man or organization. In our worship services, we do not
follow any rules but those found in the Bible, the inspired Word of God. The Bible is
our only rule of faith and practice.
We refer to ourselves as a church of Christ because this is one of the ways the Bible describes a local group of Christians.
|
We welcome any visitors who are interested in worshiping or learning more about God. We
encourage any and all questions. If you believe that anything we do is contrary to God's
word, we would appreciate your comments and would like to sit down and study the
scriptures to find out God's ultimate will. We would love to study with you at any
time and at any place, if you are interested. It is our goal to spread the glad
message that Jesus came to save, so all of us might go to Heaven one day.

Our Belief
The bible is the standard of authority
|
We believe in the authoritative word of God and will provide you with a Bible
answer for everything we do. We exalt Jesus Christ and seek to glorify Him, not ourselves.
|
Therefore, our efforts are directed toward promoting commitment to Christ, not to any man or institution.
|
Our Assemblies
Jesus said "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth".
Therefore, our worship assemblies are spiritual, simple, and orderly.
Each element of worship is patterned after the commands and examples we read about in the New Testament.
You will not find the emotionalism which is in many churches today.
|
We sing without the use of an instrument.
We find no evidence in the New Testament that the early church used mechanical
instruments to accompany their singing.
Therefore, we do not use them in our worship.
There are no choirs or performances by an individual(s).
Gospel songs are lead by a song leader and the entire congregation participates in the singing of the songs.
|
We pray
The congregation is led in prayer by one of the men of the congregation.
We pray in order to praise God, thank God, ask God for our needs and for the needs of others.
|
We partake of the Lord's Supper each first day of the week
Following the example of the New Testament church, we partake of the Lord's Supper each first day of the week.
|
As a memorial to the body and blood of Jesus this consists of unleavened bread and the fruit of the vine.
|
I Corinthians 11:23-29
I Corinthians 11:23-29
23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered
to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which
He was betrayed took bread;
24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said,
“Take, eat, this is My body which is broken for you;
do this in remembrance of Me.”
25 In the same manner He also took the cup after
supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood,
This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup,
you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of
the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the
body and blood of the Lord.
28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of
the bread and drink of the cup.
29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats
and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.
|
We teach and preach from God's word
The bible lessons and sermons are designed to teach God's word.
They are based only on the word of God and never on any man's opinion.
|
We give as we have been prospered
We take up a collection only on the first day of the week in order to support the work of this local church and is a responsibility of our members.
We do not expect any of our visitors to give.
|
What To Expect When You Visit Our Assembly
|
Whenever you visit an unfamiliar congregation for the first time,
we know it can be very uncomfortable. Here at a church of Christ at Lassen Street,
you will always be greeted with a smile and a hand shake.
You will find a group of Christians with strong family values and a
common love for God and for one another. Our congregation is made up of
ordinary people who simply desire to be followers of Jesus Christ.
You will find our worship to be simple, reverent and God-centered.
Each Sunday we remember our Lord's death by sharing the Lord's Supper as
Jesus has instructed us to do. We take up a collection to aide the
work of the local church. Visitors are neither asked nor expected to give.
We pray together, listen to God's Word being taught and sing.
Our singing is done without using a musical instrument such as a piano, organ or band.
You will want to bring your Bible and follow along.
