The Promise of Jesus, immersed with the Holy Spirit

With the coming of the new covenant Jesus told the disciples they would be
immersed with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.
When the day of Pentecost came, there came a violent wind, tongues of fire,
they were filled with the Holy Spirit and speaking in other tongues.
This would be the Holy Spirit immersing the disciples with the ability to establish the church in the new covenant.
Using the word immersed instead of the word baptism, we can see the events of that day which were not that people were being baptized by the Holy Spirit.

the word baptize is the Greek word 'baptizo' (G907) meaning to immerse
This says;
for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now
Should have been translated as
for John truly immersed with water, but you shall be immersed with the Holy Spirit not many days from now
It is unfortunate that the original word for baptism was not converted as immersed.
If it had been, the meaning of many scriptures would be clearer for us today.
The conversion of the disciples and the Jews
In the first and second chapters of Acts the promise of the Holy Spirit was given to the disciples.
If the proper meaning of baptism (immersion) is applied to Acts 1 - 2:33 it is obvious that
there was no salvation when the Holy Spirit first came.

Jesus tells the disciples to wait for the Promise of the Father to be immersed with the Holy Spirit.

and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

He tells the disciples they would receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon them.

3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.

When the day of Pentecost came they were all filled with the Holy Spirit as Jesus promised.

It is not until after Peter's sermon that the disciples were convicted of
what they had done to Jesus.
They were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles
“Men and brethren, what shall we do?"
At this point there was no baptism involved.

Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the
remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The answer was “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized (immersed in water) in the name of Jesus Christ for the
remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit".
Using the word immersed instead of baptism, it should be clear that the Holy Spirit came to the disciples because of the promise of Jesus.
He provided information for the disciples concerning the new covenant and to establish of the church.
The conversion of Cornelius and the Gentiles
Cornelius is told to call for Peter who will tell you what you must do.

6 He is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea. He will tell you what you must do.”

Cornelius was told to send for Peter who will tell you what you must do.

When Peter arrived he began a sermon telling them what they must do.

This was not a baptism but an immersion from the Holy Spirit to invite the Gentiles to take part of the new covenant and become members of the church.

because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.

Those who came with Peter were astonished that the Gentiles
were now to take part in the new covenant and become members of the church.
The gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on them as Gentiles.
At this point there was no baptism involved.
Acts 10:47

47 “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?”
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.

Peter commands them to be baptized in the name of the Lord just as the disciples were.
The word 'we' in Acts 10:47 is a reference to the Holy Spirit coming to the disciples in Acts 2.

Peter is charged with associating with the Gentiles. Peter explained to them why he did.

God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ.
The word 'us' in Acts 11:15, 17 is a reference to the Holy Spirit coming to the disciples in Acts 2.
SUMMARY/CONCLUSION
The Holy Spirit was carrying out the promise given by Jesus in Acts 1:5 that they would be immersed with the Holy Spirit.
The command to be immersed for the remission of sins was only after the Holy Spirit accomplished the promise that He came for.
When the apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit in Acts 1:4 they were immersed not baptized by the Holy Spirit.
They were given the understanding to identify the church of the new covenant, be saved and enter the church.
When the Holy Spirit fell on the Gentiles in Acts 10:44 they were immersed not baptized by the Holy Spirit.
They were given the understanding to be saved and enter the church.
The main conclusion for this study is to understand that baptism was never done by the Holy Spirit when He came upon the
Jews and the Gentiles at the beginning of the church.
If the word baptism had been correctly translated as immersion when the Greek was translate to English
there would never have been a misunderstanding about the function of the Holy Spirit at the beginning of the church.
